Let them eat cake… for charity Break

Decorate a cupcake for Mothering Sunday at intu Chapelfield 25 March (2)

intu Chapelfield hosts Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to celebrate Break4Cake

intu Chapelfield’s Lower Ground Mall will be transformed into a scene inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland over the Mothering Sunday weekend, from Friday 24 to Monday 27 March, as the shopping centre hosts a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to support Break4Cake.

Break4Cake is a new, fun fundraising activity from local charity Break, and the latest event in the charity’s long-standing partnership with intu Chapelfield. Break is known for its transformative work supporting children and young people across East Anglia. With Break4Cake, individuals and businesses are invited to host their own tea party for friends, family or colleagues, with proceeds going towards Break’s work.

The Mad Hatter’s tea table will feature a display of top hats, each decorated by intu Chapelfield retailers. The artistic bunch have previously demonstrated their creative skills by carving pumpkins for Halloween. The hats will be photographed and shared on intu Chapelfield’s Facebook page, where shoppers can vote for their favourite and be in with a chance of winning a £25 intu Gift Card.

”With Break4Cake we wanted to give people the opportunity to support our work while enjoying a fun and sociable ‘break’ from their routine,” says Martin Green, Fundraising Director at Break. “What could be nicer than sharing tea and cake (homemade or shop-bought) with friends, family or colleagues?! Break works with children and young people for whom, sadly, such support networks aren’t always available, so we hope that Break4Cake will help to get our message out to even more people.”

“intu Chapelfield has been a very good friend to Break for several years and the shopping centre retailers and customers have been exceptionally generous in their support for our work,” continues Martin. ”We’re delighted to be partnering with them again on what should be both a great fundraising opportunity and a Wonderfully fun event.”

”We’ve been working with Break since 2013 and are really proud to support the brilliant work they do in our region,” says Sheridan Smith, marketing manager at intu Chapelfield. “Break4Cake is a great way to get more people involved in fundraising and we hope that our Matt Hatter’s Tea Party will support the project in style. We know our retailers are a creative bunch and that they will enter in to the Mad Hatter spirit, so I’m looking forward to a tea party scene worthy of Wonderland. We’re already working closely with Break on the planning for next year’s GoGoHares!; watch this space!’

On Saturday 25 March, between 10am and 4pm, intu Chapelfield Kids’ Club members aged four and over can join in too. Free cupcake decorating will be available alongside the Hatter’s tea table, where children can create their own delicious present for Mothering Sunday.
